I'm happy when it rains, I'm happy when it pours

It has been one rainy weekend, and I love it. I can look outside my window and pretend I live in the Pacific Northwest or England or somewhere less hot and humid than south Louisiana. My cat Oatmeal and I have been listening to the rain, baking muffins, and watching every DVD I own.

This weekend has been catch-up time mostly. With school back in full swing, I am booked solid all week. It's strange to be back in college after just graduating (fyi I'm finishing pre-reqs for med school). But on the bright side I did get a brand new job that pays me a bunch just because I have that silly bachelor's.

I'm back to eating like a child again. Usually I'm so busy that I end up eating whole grain waffles with peanut butter or Life cereal. Caffeine is back too. Serious doses. Coffee, Coke (-ca cola), Red Bull, B vitamins, 5 hour energy, I got 'em all.

On a fashion note, I cannot wait until fall! My mind is running wild with thoughts of tights, sweaters, boots, and coats. I am thoroughly burnt out on summer clothes. It's exhausting to be forced to strategically construct an outfit based on the sweat-factor.

Summertime and the living's....hard

Living in the south has its benefits and its drawbacks. The skin-melting heat of late summer is a drawback. The summer is like quicksand here, by the time you realize how bad it is, you're in too deep and the more you struggle, the worse it becomes. At least there hasn't been a hurricane yet to knock out the power and leave us all in misery. Don't get me wrong, May was great; June was fine, but come July and summer becomes Satan's hellfire.

So, while people in other parts of the country are eyeing the upcoming fall fashions, I'm left with the realization that my summer will be lingering on until October at least. It's so unfair. Summer is my least favorite season. I really should move ASAP.

Here are some things that have gotten me through this awful season known as summer:

Because an oily complextion + excessive sweating = breakout city (and no one wants that)

I love Tom's deodorant as much as any other nature-loving modern girl, but when it's 98 degrees and 90% humidity, I need something a little stronger.

Sometimes it is imperative to bring down one's body temperature from the inside out.

And last but not least, between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 the only option for escaping the heat is to hibernate until the sun sets and the heat subsides (somewhat).

I hope the weather is less harsh and unforgiving where you are!

I've got Blonde on Blonde...

All I've been able to listen to lately is Bob Dylan, older Bob Dylan, Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited in particular. My melancholy mood is due to some health concerns partnered with summer school topped off with crippling heat. I plan to do a post solely on the heat soon. Being in south Louisiana, I think I'm qualified to expound on the subject.

Hope you're surviving the summer heat~

Shout out to all my kitties

Since I could remember, I've always had a cat in my life. Here's a little tribute to all the cats I have loved over the years-

Oatmeal (current cat)(male):

Beowulf (my last cat, who died suddenly after 2 years)(female):

Lunchbox (brother of Beowulf, no longer lives with me):

Skitty (my first cat, lived to be 21 years old) (female):

What I did with my three-day holiday...

I had heard about the show (^) because of Toni Collette's various wins for best actress (including an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG award). Then once I realized that the show was created by Diablo Cody (Juno writer), it immediately went on my list to watch. However, a mountain of classes for the past few semesters and a lack of Showtime sort of stalled the process. But with the long weekend, I figured it was high time for me to hit the movie store (how antiquated, I know) and rent a bundle of DVDs from my list.

In case you don't know, the premise is about a woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder (aka multiple personalities) and her family. Strange-seeming concept for a show, I thought, however maybe that was the point because I couldn't help but be intrigued. The 30-minute format allows the show to unfold slowly and kept me watching each subsequent episode. The opening title features amazing graphics, really noteworthy. The casting is spot-on in my opinion. (I love to see John Corbett again, aka Aidan from SATC.) The best thing about the show, by far is the acting. Toni Collette absolutely deserved to win awards for her portrayal of four distinctive characters. It's really interesting to watch her commitment to each radically different character.

Overall, the show was totally interesting. The acting was so natural that it made the slightly outlandish premise believable. Good music, good writing, good actors. Not for everyone's taste, I'm sure but I'll be renting the subsequent discs and seasons.

Please feel free to tell me what you think of the show! Any fans?

Happy Birthday, America and Happy First Post, Blog!

So I've been procrastinating on beginning this blog for what seems like months now. But today is the day. No more putting it off. I suppose an introduction is in order...

This is me-

Taken on a recent trip to the motherland, aka England (literally my mother is from England).

This is my cat, Oatmeal-

This is the state I currently reside in, way down in the south (you know, near that coastline that's covered in oil)-
I hope to update this blog often and that it will fill the void that livejournal has left in my life since I grew up and stopping complaining so much. Hope to have some readers soon! So, tell your friends and READ MY BLOG!
